Seven members of First Baptist, San Antonio departed for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to begin construction on the second floor at Villa Altagracia School. FBCSA had been a part financially of the initial construction of the school. After less than 2 years, the classrooms were filled to overflowing. It was time to expand.
With only 4 workdays and scatterings of rain, the team went to work. The expectation of the local leaders was for us to frame up the first classroom. When we closed down on the last day, we had framed tow classrooms, applied siding to the exterior walls and insulation on the inside. Also, rafters were installed and the tin roof completed. To access the new floor, a dual staircase was built from the courtyard below to both wings of the second floor.
In addition to the construction project, the team visited an orphanage in Monte Plata and installed some closet shelving in a new transition house. We also visited Rosa Elena’s School in Hatillo and were able to provide funding for new bulletin boards throughout the school. The boards are already being constructed and installed.
The true blessing of the trip was the opportunity to be able to meet the Dominicans at IBQ church and to be able to serve alongside of them. They have a heart for the Lord and to share the gospel with their city and country. Thank you too for STCH (South Texas Children’s Home). What a blessing to serve alongside these partners in ministry.
