It is amazing what some sunshine can do for your spirit. Yesterday was our last day of park VBS, and it was a day that was full of joy. All across the city of Anchorage in parks and church yards, children were being presented the gospel in a very real and personal way. It was beautiful. Lots of smiles and hugs as we wrapped up the week. One of the real benefits to this program is that we could tell the children to come back next week. We knew that there would be another team, from another city with hearts ready to meet and love these children.
One of our team said it was difficult to say goodbye. It’s a bit odd how quickly we can attach ourselves to others. My prayer has been all week that the Chapel Singers would learn the stories of these children. I told the at our devotional time that inevitably there is an ending to stories, but there is joy that we are now apart of their narrative. We also were keen to pray for our role in the spiritual journey of these children. We may have been the first to pray for or talk about Jesus with them, or we may have somehow watered the seed of faith in their hearts, but our prayer was constant. That we would be faithful to do as the Spirit called us to do.
Last night we we celebrated at two parks, with face painting, bounce houses, hot dogs, soccer, music, and a ton of people. The sun was shining, it was a glorious way to end the week.
The students also sang for Chapel again yesterday morning as we observed the Lord’s Supper together. This has been a great week.
