This morning we went to speak English with university students at one of the local colleges near Wowel Castle. There were three 90 minute classes, during which we had several conversations about various topics, including crime, beliefs, pets, parties, dreams, etc. It was interesting speaking with the students because many of them came from Germany and the Ukraine in addition to Poland. The conversations came easily and by the end of each class we had at least one or more students sign up to meet with us in the coming days. We handed out a schedule of all the events we will be hosting during the week to the rest of the students. Please pray that God brings the students that were more hesitant to commit to these events,.
Chris also joined us during the third class. He walked in like a champion and plunged into conversation after having just traveled for 24 hours straight. In addition, he stayed awake for the rest of what has been one of the most exhausting days yet!!
We got a short break in the afternoon before heading back to the church for an English conversation club, called Vox Box, with the church members. We did a Texas themed program and taught people from 15 to 50 years of age about San Antonio and what it is like to be a Texan. Everyone there was eager to learn from us and to practice their English speaking skills. We, in turn, also were able to learn from them what it is like to be Polish. Their country has gone through much political change in the past twenty years. They have watched it go from a communist country to the democracy that it is today. While the political system has improved immensely, Poland continues to be a post-religion country. The church members shared that it is difficult to share their faith when 89% of the country identifies with the Catholic Church and claims to believe in God even though church is a dying trend. Please pray that this church would be a light to the younger generation because they need to be introduced to the relational aspect of God.
We are now all tucked into our beds and ready to sleep. Thank you for your prayers–because of them, we were able to say awake and alert the entire day and Chris was able to get to us safely. Tomorrow we will be having one-on-one conversations with people who signed up to come speak with us, and we will have Vox Box again in the evening. Your continued prayers are always needed and always a blessing!
