The South Africa mission team’s final assignment was at Matroosfontein Baptist Church in Cape Town. After an informal “meet & greet” on Friday between the team and just a handful of youth and young adults, the team was back on Saturday morning for an all-day “Five Principles of Unity” conference.
This is a tiny church whose attendance has been in steady decline over the last two years, while they have been without a pastor. They are positioned in a pretty rough, impoverished neighborhood, and the church has literally been held together by two or three deacons and their families. There were only 10 members in attendance at the Saturday seminar (and another four from another local church). The small group times were rich with discussion and the few who were there we’re deeply engaged in the conference.
Those few members were so moved by the time together on Saturday, they “beat the bushes” throughout the community for the Sunday morning worship time.
On Sunday morning there were some 50-60 people in worship! The team brought a sermon entitled “Choose You This Day the kind of Church You Intend to Be”. At the conclusion of the service, more than half of those present came forward making decisions to recommit their lives to Christ and to the church. It was an amazing outpouring of the Spirit!
Your South African team is so very grateful for the church’s support of this endeavor. As is always the case, they all agreed that it was their own lives which were changed the most. Thank you, FBCSA for this opportunity!
